In the past, Master Gardener Volunteers had several perennial display gardens at the Gateway Learning Gardens. Plans for the future are to include many perennial beds in the Snyder Park Gardens and Arboretum, both for demonstration and enjoyment as well as research. The first and temporary perennial bed planted at SPGA was around the former golf course Club House. These beds hold many of the plants that were moved from the Gateway Learning Gardens.

The next project was to plant 3,000 daffodil bulbs around the main entrance to the gardens near the Club House.  This was completed in 2016 and in the spring of 2017, we had a "daffodil river."  In 2017 a selection of daylilys were incorporated between the daffodils and a row of Blue Heaven little bluestem was planted behind the daffodils.  Plans are to add perennials to the feature garden area for you to enjoy as you enter the gardens. These perennial gardens will be included in the Springfield Foundation Feature Garden and the Pavilion (planned for 2018).  We are currently in the process of raising $100,000.00 for the Pavilion.
